Is it moral for societies to develop weapons of mass destruction for any reason?
In past civilizations war has been used for various reasons. In order to conduct the massive killing of your enemy, you have to have the best weapons. An example of the benefits of more efficient weapons is the battle between American colonists and Indians. Since the colonists had the best weapons they had an easy win over the Indians, who attempted to fight back with bows and arrows. I believe that the development of weapons is not a moral thing but I believe that it is necessary for defense.
The need for defense of one’s property is an essential right that everyone should have. Such is the purpose for the Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights. The Second Amendment states that anyone has” the right to bear arms.” This enables a citizen to protect their property by having a weapon at hand. Being able to defend your territory against any kind of threat requires weapons. Having a weapon that will leave tens of thousands dead and many more wounded does not seem like a moral thing. The death of human beings is sometimes necessary to obtain liberty or any other want. Independence is an example of the sacrifice for death.
As I have mentioned, in order to defeat your enemy you have to have the appropriate weapons. It doesn’t matter the issue that one is fighting for, it always has one definite cause and a mortal effect. Building weapons is not the best example of integrity. Yet, with or without the use of modern weapons humans have still killed each other for thousands of reasons. There is really not a need for weapons; we could kill each other with our own hands, a rock, or even a stick. The benefit of artillery such as cannons is the mass destruction and the distance reached. Distance is a huge factor, because the longer the distance and the better accuracy of the weapon, the higher the chance of you coming out alive.
In the end, the proficiency of the weapon is the main factor of determining whether you live or not. Yet, if you have a finer weapon then your chances of making it to the next world decrease. Either way, I believe that the making of weapons is not an immoral thing. Yet, the way that people can use them changes the purpose of artillery. It all depends on the morals of the person.
